Audience Effects Theory

1) Write a definition of a passive audience: 

This is the view that audiences passively take in information in the media ands that these messages have the same effect on everyone.


2) Write a definition of an active audience: 

An active audience refers to a group of media consumers who actively engage with, interpret, and respond to media content. Unlike passive audiences, active audiences critically analyze and question the information they receive, often forming their own opinions and interpretations.

3) Write a definition of the hypodermic needle theory: 

The hypodermic needle theory is a concept in media studies. It suggests that media messages are directly "injected" into the passive audience's mind, like a needle injecting medicine. This means the audience is seen as having little to no ability to resist or question the information they receive.

4) Write down a media product (e.g. TV show, newspaper or videogame) for each category of Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory and WHY it fits that particular audience use/gratification. The first one is done for you: 

Entertainment = A tv show like "Friends" fits here because it provides humor and an escape from everyday life,
